Consistent end-of-year follow up helps build trust with families in temporary housing and can also prevent disagreements about McKinney-Vento eligibility later. This webinar will provide strategies and best practices for liaisons and other school staff who follow up with McKinney-Vento students and their families at the end of the school year. With a focus on trauma-sensitive methods for confirming eligibility, updating address information, planning for transportation and supporting students who may be planning transitions to a new school or community, the webinar will offer tools for navigating difficult conversations, sample templates that school districts can use, and resources that streamline the process of checking in at key moments in the school year. We will also provide an brief review of the dispute process under ESSA and tips for preventing unnecessary disputes.
This webinar is designed for McKinney-Vento Liaisons and school staff working directly with students in temporary housing and their families, including professionals in all areas of New York State, outside of NYC. If you work in New York City, please consider joining the webinar on 4/30/20.
